American attacker Eddie Johnson arrived as the States’ great goalscoring hope but endured an ill-fated spell at Craven Cottage undermined by injuries and a lack of form. The speedy striker failed to find the net in 22 appearances and, despite initial promise when paired with compatriot Brian McBride by Roy Hodgson, was released in June 2011.
