Fulham defender Stephen Kelly will captain the Republic of Ireland in their friendly clash with Uruguay on Tuesday night.

The Fulham defender takes the armband from Robbie Keane who will not play a part after being released by boss Giovanni Trapattoni, who will use the game to look at some of his backup players.

Kelly, 27, was an unused substitute in the 2-1 victory over Macedonia in Euro 2012 qualifying on Saturday night.
