Rafik Halliche could make his Fulham debut in tomorrow’s League Cup tie against Port Vale.
The Algerian centre back, who completed his £2m move from Benfica on Monday, has been included in Mark Hughes’ squad for the second round fixture at Craven Cottage and could replace either Brede Hangeland or Aaron Hughes at the heart of the Fulham defence, especially with Saturday’s trip to Blackpool in mind. Moussa Dembele, impressive from the bench against Manchester United on Sunday, is expected to make his full debut against the League Two side.
According to the Press Association, Rob Milsom, Kagisho Dikgacoi, Frederik Stoor and Eddie Johnson are all available for selection.
I believe all the gents you’ve referenced need a run out against Port Vale. I can see Stockdale being the only starter from the weekend to participate. Add in Gera, Baird, Dembele and Kelly that gives you 5. Include Halliche, KG, Stoor, Riise and EJ, that’s 10. Maybe Davies or Dempsey out on the wing gives you 11.
As I’ve said in the comments on the preview Colin, I reckon that Sparky could play a strong side to start with tonight. He’s got a good record in the League Cup and will definitely want to win this evening.
Dan, you are probably right, it being this early in the season and not having to worry about Europe draining the starters. I guess I was just going off of what our early Europa League teams consisted of, a few of the league starters plus the backups out wide. Woy always seemed to keep the middle of the pitch strong and flank it with the likes of Kelly, Riise, etc.
