Fulham defender Brede Hangeland has rubbished reports he is going to join former boss Roy Hodgson at Liverpool in a £10million move.
In fact, the giant defender thinks that if Fulham get the right new manager and add to the squad – the Whites will go even higher than the heady seventh they achieved two seasons ago.
The Norwegian got 45 minutes under his belt in the 5-0 defeat of Brentford on Wednesday night – and is confident his team won’t suffer because Hodgson has jumped ship to take the helm at Anfield.
He said: “Of course we were disappointed to see Roy go – but to be honest I wasn’t very surprised.
“He deserves to go to a bigger club and we’ve been lucky to have him for two-and-a-half years.
“The organisation at Fulham is very good – we have a good working unit, and hopefully if we get the right new manager, we’ll keep going.”ealinggazette
And although Hangeland admits his ex-boss has transformed him from a good player into one coveted throughout the Premiership – the defender wants to test himself under a new man at Craven Cottage.
He said: “There’s always speculation about players moving to clubs, and I would be lying if I didn’t say I prefer it when people think I’ve done better than the opposite.
“But the more years I play, the more I learn to ignore speculation and keep my head down.
“I’m confident I’m good enough to play under another manager.
“If we hadn’t been in Europe last season – I think we would have finished higher, and we can put more focus on the league and go even higher this time.
“I’d love to see all the players stay – and even one or two more coming in – and then we’ll look even stronger.”
Fulham’s World Cup players remain on holiday for the trip to Bournemouth tomorrow – but caretaker boss Ray Lewington is confident Danny Murphy and Bobby Zamora will have shaken off niggles for the trip to the seaside.
