The Mirror links us with Rangers winger DeMarcus Beasley.
I’m not sure about this one. The American hasn’t exactly set the SPL alight since he joined Rangers and, though he might be desperate for some first-team football to get himself back in the World Cup picture, I just don’t see him getting it at Fulham. From a position of weakness last season, our options out wide our now fairly strong.
Damien Duff has been excellent since he joined from Newcastle and Zoltan Gera has really picked up from some poor performances last season. Clint Dempsey’s weighed in with a few crucial goals and seems to be Hodgson’s preferred choice on the opposite flank and we’ve got the returning Simon Davies to fit into the mix.
While Fulham have been a fairly accomodating home for Americans over the years – think Bocanegra, McBride, Keller, Dempsey (as well as Eddie Johnson and the early exports in the shape of Eddie Lewis and Marcus Hahnemann) – I would chalk this up as a bit of paper talk right now.
I love Demarcus. That being said, at the time he signed with Rangers, I said it was a mistake and got blasted by many U.S. supporters. He’s a player now who lacks confidence. Signing with Fulham and playing reserve matches will not regain that confidence.
Bottom line is, he will not factor in the World Cup squad in 2010. However, he’s still young enough that he can target 2014 (he would be 32). Go back to MLS and get some playing time. I don’t want to see him take to the pitch at Craven Cottage…BUT…I’d welcome him with open arms at the OTHER club I support, the Chicago Fire.
Please, please no. Fulham isn’t the place to work your way back from a severe dip in form. I smell an agent.
He’s had knee troubles the last couple of years, as well, which have hindered his form and playing time. As a US MNT supporter, I don’t see him being a fit at Fulham.
