This was actually at the start of the week so sorry for the late post. After Zamora’s howler on Saturday, as usual, the critics took no time to write more horrible things about him in the papers. I can understand that it was a horrific miss but it has been blown out of proportion. Videos like this are just typical of the press at the minute.
But let’s be honest, Bobby Zamora has been excellant in a Fulham shirt for the past few matches and we really would miss his holding up play and his crosses if we didn’t have him!
Another point is that Aruna Dindane’s TWO misses for Portsmouth last week were far worse 🙂
If you appreciate Bobby Zamora in a Fuham Shirt then let your feelings be known below -let’s give the guy a bit of confidence from us!
The bottom of this article doesn’t help either http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2009/oct/29/sir-alex-ferguson-gordon-strachan
I know that the video is a cheap shot, but the sound effect as he hits the all is amusing and made me smile. And the music isnt bad either.
But on a more serious note, Whilst it was a bad miss, he has been excellent this season and it ended up being fairly irrelevant to the game as a whole.
Did anyone else notice that on MOTD they did not even show Kamaras poor touch when through 1 on 1, almost as bad IMO
I think part of the reason for the Roma result was because Bobby was taken off. With him gone there was no one left to hold up the ball to give the defense a break. If i remember correctly, it seemed like one way traffic after that point.
The only way Zamora would be effective, would be to have him alongside players of the ilk of Gerrard, Lampard, who are highly capable goalscoring midfielders.
With his lack of speed, and incision he is a waste of space, as we do not possess an instinctive striker to spearhead our attack. His delays allow the opposing defences to reform, before any inroad can be made.
Ray-
Wind your neck in! His hold up play is great and then he puts the ball into the box. If he is so slow then how does he get to the ball ahead of his defender? You’re obviously one of these fans who just jump on the band wagon and go with what the press says.
I do think that he needs to start scoring more but he is far from a waste of space!
The one thing about Zamora is half the Fulham world like him, and the other think he is ‘waste of space’, as Ray so eloquently put it. It is quite obvious that when he is not in the lineup, we lose something offensively. I am not savvy enough to know for sure what it is but it is clear he MUST contribute given this is nearly always the case. What I can see is he is a good target and he does hold the ball up allow the attack to develop. What he is not is a Tevez or Ronaldo or Messi who can get the ball and then create an opportunity for themsevles. He is just not that kind of player, doesn’t posses the feet nor the athleticism and speed to do it. You don’t need to score 15 goals a season to be effective for Roy’s system. This is why Roy chooses to start Bob, rather than sit him. Roy wants results, he doesn’t seek 4-0 wins or 4-5 losses.
BZ is not my favourite player (much to do with his moody antics and scowling at us fans) I also think that if your job title ‘striker’ then he shoudl score more goals and without any professional player should not miss chances liek the one he missed at Citeh.
There is and has been in these parts extensive discussion as to if he is a striker or a forward and that surely goes on. There is absolutely no doubt that without BZ’s play on Sunday we would not have got back to 2:2. He aslo scored 1 and set up the other (it was a shot) the second against Hull.
You can see by the way he splits opinion that the case either way is not clear cut and bascially he is a Fulham player and picked by one of, if not the, best managers the club has ever had.
Lets move on as I dont see it changing much until we buy Torres
Zamora is an excellent technical player and there is no one in the Premier League who can improve on his hold up skills. Add few more goals to his repertoire and therefore his confidence and you have a player that would rival Heskey for his England place.
I doubt very much that Zamora’s assist against Hull was a shot. He looks across as he picks up the ball to check out where Kamara was and because he didn’t have time to think about it he produced a great cross.
Are Beta Blockers banned substances for sports people? If not we should dose up Bobby before a game.
Bad Andy – Sat right behind hime in the JH as he approached goal. It was without doubt a shot. No debate.
We scored and that is what mattered.
As beta Blocker are under the title of ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES then I would fear harsh conseqences if we give them too him lol
Instead of us having to give the millionaire confidence pehaps he could practice his touch and finishing. There are games when he is awful. But while he has been with Kamara he has found a whole new spring in his step. Hope he keeps it up and he re learns how to hit the back of the net.
Zamora is playing in a Strikers position, and as such, should be capable of making gaps in defences ! He has only been listed as 2 assists this season, not many for a player who has only that as an asset.
He never will be a decent Striker in the Premier League, & he is not busy enough to be played in midfield, nor can he put in a decent tackle, he is not at all good in the air, does not run the channels like AJ, or put in anywhere near the work.
He gives away too many fouls, & thus possession as well.
An attack must flow, as does any Arsenal forward line they opt to field, & this cannot be done with Zamora up front, holding the whole thing back.
Coming a bit late to this debate, but there’s this from another thread, posted by L tonight:
“Take Bobby Zamora. In 35 games last year in the premier league he had 84 shots and 23 shots on goal (lead Fulham in both categories). That’s a rate of 2.4 shots a game and .65 per game on target. This year Bobby has 19 shots and 7 shots on target in 7 games. That’s an INCREASED rate of 2.7 shots per game and most importantly, Bobby’s getting a shot on target in each game. So, it is fair to say that Bobby is really playing better because he’s getting into good positions, AND getting shots on target; howler aside.”
