In his latest Eurosport column, Danny Murphy says goal-line technology must be introduced after Crystal Palace were controversially denied a goal at Bristol City last weekend. It is an interesting argument, although the media are conveniently ignoring the fact that the officials have said that the goal was disallowed for an infringement in the build-up rather than because they didn’t spot that the ball had gone into the net and come back out.

Not sure about this. I might be a nutter but I like the fact that human error means they’ll always be something to talk about in the pub after the game. Plus, however bad a referee is, more games will decided by errors from players and managers than by mistakes from the officials.
Also, it might be a bit too romantic but I like the idea that football’s the same whether you play it in the park on a Sunday morning or in the Premiership. How are the non-league clubs going to afford this technology? It would just create a two-tier game with some divisions affording the goal-line gismos and the lower leagues being left with the old-fashioned man in the middle.
