Can’t help thinking this would be great business. Interesting that the club have confirmed it in advance of the transfer being completed. That’s a departure from the normal routine, I think.
It’s around what we paid for him a year ago and he hasn’t exactly set the world on the fire since. He’s an honest, hard-working player, but he hasn’t been able to find the back of the net with any regularity. We need an upgrade to compete in Europe and hopefully these funds will allow us to make a move.
On that note, didn’t we say we’d only allow Bobby to move once we’ve lined up a replacement? Who could that be?
I would have thought that, if we did sell, we’d be selling low. But I guess you can’t really be selling low if you’re making a slight profit. I had hoped to keep him, but £5m is a lot to turn down.
Next question: do we even need a target man?
Yeah, it’s interesting one. You would think that Bobby’s departure might mean a change in the way we play, although obviously not if Crouch is our top target (no pun intended). If we changed it up, would this mean we would have to play a wider style of game than we did last year?
Very intriguing questions. I guess it all depends on who we’ve got lined up to come in.
