Fulham have announced their squad for next Saturday’s friendly against Melbourne Victory.
It is a mixture of experienced first-team players, returning loanees and some of our youth and reserve team talent. It’s been reported as a fairly strong squad Down Under and, although I wouldn’t agree with Kevin Muscat’s assessment that it’s a full-strength side. take out our internationals and it looks like as a good a side as we could have sent out there.
I haven’t seen a different squad list for our first game against the Perth Glory next Thursday so I would imagine that the same players will be involved in that game.
GOALKEEPERS: Schwarzer, Zuberbuhler, Stockdale.
DEFENDERS: Baird, Briggs, Hughes, Kallio, Kelly, Leijer, Pantsil, Smalling, Stoor.
MIDFIELDERS: Gera, Seol, Murphy, Andranik, Saunders.
STRIKERS: A. Johnson, E. Johnson, Kamara, Nevland, Zamora.
We just havn’t got any players anymore!! this must be thinnest the squad has ever been especially after releasing 7 today and making only one purchase in the transfer window thus far…
Steady on Dan.
Firstly, the squad for the Melbourne game doesn’t include any of the internationals who have played matches recently. Put Hangeland, Dempsey and Etuhu into the mix and suddenly it looks far stronger. I’m sure Roy thinks that the Australian tour would be a good place for other young players to shine. Don’t forget that Wayne Brown is still on loan in Finland too.
Secondly, the transfer window’s barely opened. We’ve signed one player and are in negotiations with a few more if the usual sources (which are almost always on the money, even if Dan hasn’t reported them here yet) are to be believed. Have some patience and I’m sure there will be more new arrivals in the next few weeks.
Yeah, I’d recommend patience re. new signings as well. We are very much in talks or tracking a number of new players and the deals obviously take time to conclude.
I’m not too bothered about the size of the squad. There are some promising youngsters coming through and there are a few players who we haven’t taken Down Under who would walk into the first team.
In addition, I’d say the quality of the squad is a lot higher than it has been for many, many seasons – arguably since our first season back in the top flight. You only have to look at how few survivors there are from our squad that started Coleman’s last season in charge to see how much of an overhaul there’s been.
