It can’t be twelve years today since Rodney McAree’s wonderful volley at Carlisle set us on the way to promotion from Division Three.
Here are the goals from that famous day, which also brings to mind Micky Adams’ fine half-time team talk when we were a goal down at the break. ‘Does anyone in this dressing room think we can’t win this game?’ Watch out for a typical poacher’s finish from Mick Conroy and, of course, the joyful celebrations after McAree’s sweet strike. By the way, the man who scored for Carlisle? Rory Delap – whose booming throws are still to grace the Cottage this season.
Meant to thank Si from TIFF for posting the clip.
Isn’t it 12 years? Great times though, didn’t make the game as we were on a stag do in town but remember watching the scores coming and jumping for joy.
Absolutely right. I was right in thinking that 10 years seemed out. Can only blame my frazzled mind.
