Betting on Fulham has not been terribly rewarding for me. But this website seems to think odds of 17/2 on a Fulham victory at Stamford Bridge on Saturday are too inviting to pass up.
Listening to various phone-ins after Chelsea’s midweek heroics in Barcelona in the Champions League to keep the home side scoreless, the Blues took a hammering for their negative, defensive rearguard married with a lack of ambition up front. But they now have the edge on paper back at their own place and qualifying for a second successive is uppermost in their minds. That display has come at a price – both strategically and physically. Boss Guus Hiddink is ready to rest his big names – “we know where our focus is ” – for the visit of local rivals Fulham while both Michael Ballack and Florent Malouda admitted to be being very tired and in need of time to recover. It makes the Cottagers rather appealing then at 17/2 for victory considering they are still in the hunt for a European place with Roy Hodgson hoping to guide them to their best ever Premier League finish. Wins over Arsenal and Manchester United this season – allbeit on their own ground – suggest they won’t be put off by the task in hand and should be supported at inflated odds.
Worth a flutter?
I’m pretty confident we can get a point Saturday.
I think we’ve got a great chance to get something out of the game, but I’m far too superstitious to actually bet on Fulham winning.
