Chicago Fire had to settle for a point as they bounced back from a disappointing first-half display to draw 1-1 in the second round of MLS matches last night.

Former Fulham captain Brian McBride lasted the full ninety minutes but his best chance to add to his opening day goal saw a fierce shot well turned over the crossbar by Josh Wicks late on. His side had to come from behind after Luciano Emilio was allowed time and space to come forward with the ball before his left-footed shot from distance beat Jon Busch in the Fire goal to give D.C. United a deserved early lead.

The Fire improved markedly after the break and didn’t have to wait long for an equaliser. Marco Pappa’s through ball released Patrick Nyarko, who held off Dejan Jakovic and slipped the finish past Wicks to level the contest. Chicago will hope to build on their unbeaten start in their first home game of the season, when they host the New York Red Bulls next Sunday night.
