Canadian full back Paul Stalteri was an unsung hero of Fulham’s Great Escape. He might have made only thirteen appearances after arriving on loan on transfer deadline day but the steady Stalteri solved the dilemma of who to play in the problematic right back position for Roy Hodgson with a series of consistent displays. He solidified a leaky defence and was outstanding in Fulham’s last two fixtures were wins were essential: keeping clean sheets against relegation rivals Birmingham City and then Portsmouth on a dramatic final day.
