I wasn’t surprised when Chris Coleman got a decent job at Real Sociedad after being sacked by Fulham. Coleman was certaintly the best defender I’d ever seen at Fulham and a likeable man into the bargain. Ultimately, his inexperience and tactical naivety nearly cost us our top flight place at the end of last season, but I’ll always remember how well he did in his first full season at the helm.

Coleman’s new job with the Second Division Spanish side started badly with a 2-0 defeat against Castellano, but they got their first win of the season yesterday – away from home as well! Whatever Coleman’s used to end that awful away-day hoodoo is worth bottling, given how he struggled on the road with Fulham. Nice to see new signing David Vaughan – formerly a promising winger with Crewe – have a hand in the winner, having been fouled in the penaslty area. There are local bragging rights for Sociedad, too, as they beat local rivals Eibar. Hopefully, that’s an omen for the mighty Hammarby tonight.
