Michael Brown signed for Fulham on transfer deadline day in January 2006. The combative midfielder quickly became Chris Coleman’s captain, making seven league appearances in an injury-hit campaign. He played 37 times as Fulham finished a point and two places above the drop the following season, but Coleman’s successor Lawrie Sanchez viewed Brown as surplus to requirements and the tenacious tackler joined Wigan in July 2007. The former England under-21 international went on to play for Portsmouth – with whom he reached the FA Cup final in 2010 – Leeds United and Port Vale. Brown spent a year in charge of Vale and is now a regular pundit on BBC Radio 5 Live.
