Fulham midfielder Jimmy Bullard will miss the start of the new season.

The shaggy-haired playmaker suffered serious knee ligament damage at Newcastle last September in a tackle with Scott Parker, and has since been to America for tests. Leading surgeon Dr Richard Steadman is confident the injury has now healed, but Bullard has been warned not to rush his recovery. The former Wigan midfielder will now start a weight training programme at the start of July to build up the muscle in his legs, and hopes to play again by September.
