New Zealand international Simon Elliott signed for Fulham on a free transfer in January 2006 after a successful trial, having first come to Chris Coleman’s attention starring for the MLS All-Stars during Fulham’s pre-season tour of America in the summer of 2005. Elliott made his debut in the FA Cup third round defeat by Leyton Orient and went on to make thirteen first-team appearances for Fulham before injuring his calf, a setback which wrote off his entire 2006-07 campaign. He was released by Fulham in May 2007, but went on to feature in New Zealand’s 2010 World Cup campaign, where the All Whites were unbeaten in their three group games and unfortunate not to reach the knockout phase.
