Fulham manager Chris Coleman wants to sign Swedish centre back Per Nilsson for £1.5m, according to the The People.

Coleman is desperate to recruit defensive reinforcements as quickly as possible after losing Zat Knight for three months after he broke his jaw in a freak home accident. Nilsson, who has long been tracked by Sunderland, is eager to try his luck in England after starring for Norwegian outfit Odd Grenland.

The Black Cats saw a £1.2m offer rebuffed back in August and Fulham are confident that Coleman could have his man in place as soon as next week if they can match Odd Grenland’s valuation of their in-form centre half.

Odd Grenland chairman Tore Andersen is quoted as saying: “We would consider selling Per if the financial offer was attractive. I know Fulham are interested.”
