Affectionately known as ‘Putney’ after making a real impression during his loan spell from Chelsea in 2006, Fulham were frustrated in their attempts to sign Bridge permanently following that summer’s World Cup. He made twelve appearances on loan having been frozen out of Jose Mourinho’s side and became even more popular amongst the Fulham faithful after telling the press he would cheering on the Whites against his parent club in the local derby. Bridge made it to the World Cup despite getting badly injured on his international return against Spain – which ended his spell in Chris Coleman’s first team.
