London have won the right to host the 2012 Olympic Games – beating Paris after four rounds of tense voting by four votes.
The British bid triumphed by 54-50 in a secret and electronic ballot of International Olympic Committee members in Singapore, the IOC president Jacques Rogge announced this afternoon. The news sparked delirious scenes of celebration among the London delegation in the hall and at a public screening of the result in Trafalgar Square.
