Auxerre could be the club to rescue Steve Marlet from his nightmare at Fulham.

Marlet is waiting to secure his exit from Craven Cottage, having spent the past two seasons on loan at Marseille.

A permanent move to Stade Velodrome failed to materialise, while the France international has already rejected a switch to Le Mans.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman admits Marlet has no future at the club and is trying to fix the striker up with a new team.

Marlet is anxious to join a club who can offer him European football and that has led to French Cup winners Auxerre showing an interest.

Auxerre coach Jacques Santini worked with Marlet at both Lyon, and with the French national team, and is a fan of the 31-year-old.

Santini is keen to strengthen his attack and is considering a move for Marlet, after being boosted by Benjamin Mwaruwari’s – Benjani – decision to stay at the club.
