England international Andrew Cole had two spells at Craven Cottage at either end of his illustrious career. The first came when he was loaned as a promising youngster from First Division Arsenal, where he had impressed after leaving school, in 1991. Cole scored three goals in thirteen appearances and went on to win trophies with Newcastle United, Manchester United and Blackburn Rovers before signing for Fulham on a free transfer for a second time in the summer of 2004. He opened the scoring on the club’s league return to Craven Cottage – in a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers – and finished the campaign as Fulham’s top scorer, netting one of the goals of the season against Liverpool, but left to return north due to be with his family in the summer of 2005.
