Chris Coleman has dampened down talk of Fulham qualifying for the Champions’ League as his side prepare to take on Chelsea in a local derby this weekend.
The Fulham boss has surprised all-comers by leading the Whites to fourth place in the Premiership table, but admitted holding onto that position might prove beyond his side come the end of the season.
“I think we’ve got to be realistic. We haven’t a big squad, although hopefully I can add one or two in January, and I don’t think anybody expects us to stay in fourth place until the end of the season. I’m certainly not thinking about fourth, fifth or even sixth. I’m just thinking about getting as many points in the bag as we can. If we are there come February or March, then who knows, maybe we will start talking about a different target. But we’ve got to remember what happened to us last year when we were in a relegation fight, and we don’t want that again.”
