Chris Coleman has warned his Fulham side they will need a huge improvement on Saturday’s goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers if they are to take anything from Tuesday’s encounter with Newcastle.
The Fulham boss told his pre-match news conference this afternoon:
“Newcastle are a quality team, they had a good result on Saturday and they’ll be coming down full of confidence. But all the games are tough for us now and this will be no different. By their standards you could say they’ve had a rocky spell, but they’re still a good team packed with international players. It will be a big test for us on Tuesday night.
“We’ve got a good record against them at home, so let’s hope that continues. They won’t be where they are now at the end of the season. They’ve made a few signings, it’ll take a while for them to gel and settle in, but they’re still a top six team.
“This is going to be a testing period for us – Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool. But they’re all hard games – especially for us, where the majority of times we’re not fancied anyway. We won’t be fancied again tomorrow night, but that’s happened since the start of the season and we’ve proven people wrong. So hopefully we’ll prove people wrong again tomorrow. But we’ve got to perform better than we did on Saturday to have a chance.”
