Fulham goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has praised Chris Coleman for making Fulham harder to beat on their travels.
The Whites battled to a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City yesterday despite having to play the final twenty minutes with ten men after Sylvain Legwinski’s sending off. Fulham managed just twelve points away from home last season but Coleman has changed the mentality of the squad after taking over from Jean Tigana, according to van der Sar.
The Dutch international told the Evening Standard:
“I think we are more realistic now and know what we want and can do, as well as what we must not do. “We try to be hard to beat and showed that at Tottenham when we won 3-0. We have learnt that you don’t always have to play nice football away from home but you have to get the points.
We are more effective now. That is down to Chris mainly. Our away record has been bad in the last couple of years and we are trying to improve. One more win away would equal the number we managed last season.”
