Veteran midfielder John Collins brushed aside talk of replacing Andy Melville as Fulham’s captain after the defender was dropped for the Intertoto win over Greek opponents Aigaleo last weekend

Welsh international Melville watched from the bench as the Whites laboured to a narrow victory at Craven Cottage and Collins insisted he was just happy to be back in Jean Tigana’s starting line-up – such is the quality in the Fulham squad.

The 34 year-old former Everton midfielder said:

“It’s the manager’s choice. It doesn’t matter if I’m captain or not captain – I’ll still go on the park to play my best and try to win, as always. It’s actually difficult enough just to get in the team, so I’m happy enough playing, never mind being captain.”
