Spanish international Pep Guardiola is close to joining Fulham, according to reports from Spain this morning.
The Barcelona midfielder took the decision to leave the Camp Nou at the end of last season in order to pursue playing opportunities outside of his homeland. Spanish TV station TVE suggests that Guardiola is set to move to Craven Cottage in a £2m deal.
Guardiola was linked with a number of continental suitors over the course of the summer but no move has materialised and Jean Tigana has moved quickly to try and snap up the 30 year-old for a bargain fee. Guardiola has previously spoken of his dream of playing in the Premiership and he would add undoubted quality to Fulham’s rapidly expanding squad having lifted six league titles, the Champions’ League, a Cup Winners’ Cup, two Spanish Cups, two European Super Cups and four Spanish Super Cups during his time in Catalonia.
Marca are also reporting this morning that Guardiola’s agent, Josep MarÃa Orobitg, is in London to complete the deal with the Cottagers.
