Fulham have launched another attempt to sign German international Oliver Bierhoff from AC Milan.
Jean Tigana is finally making the sort of breakthrough in the transfer market that he had hoped to achieve earlier in the close season, and managing director Michael Fiddy confirmed another new face could arrive in time for their Premiership opener with Manchester United.
Abdeslam Ouaddou and Steed Malbranque are on the brink of finalising their switches to West London, but these are already in the bag for the capital outfit.
“The manager is always looking to strengthen his squad and it is possible that we will make another signing before the start of the season,” stated Fiddy.
Tigana’s top target is a striker, and Bierhoff is the name at the head of his list of possible recruits.
The German striker admitted recently that he was hoping Fulham make a firm offer for his services, as he looks set to quit Milan.
The rossoneri have handed the Euro 96 goal hero a shirt number for the new campaign, unlike Jose Antonio Chamot and Zvonimir Boban, but their attempts to sell the aforementioned duo have floundered. Chamot’s proposed moves to Marseille and Tottenham collapsed, while Boban was unable to reach agreement with Celta Vigo. Although Galatasaray are now in the frame for the Croatian, he is not thought to favour a move to Turkey.
Milan are desperate to sell in order to finance their move for Sam Dalla Bona and, although Daniele Daino is being lined up for a move to Derby County, that might only be on a loan basis. With city rivals Internazionale also chasing Chelsea midfielder Dalla Bona, Milan are aware of the need to raise their bid, but are struggling to offload players in order to justify the outlay.
Bierhoff is believed to have reignited the possibility of joining Fulham after any hopes of a move to Leeds United ended when Mark Viduka committed his future to the Elland Road outfit.
