Birmingham City have confirmed the £2.25m signing of Fulham striker Geoff Horsfield.
The deal for the 26 year-old breaks Blues’ transfer record and Horsfield has signed a five-year contract at St. Andrew’s. The former Halifax bricklayer becomes City’s second signing of the week after Nicky Eaden joined a free transfer.
Horsfield, who joined Fulham from non-league Halifax for £350,000 in October 1998, scored 31 goals in 74 games for the Whites helping the club win promotion from the Second Division and reach the FA Cup quarter finals in 1999 and the League Cup last eight last season. The tall striker was less prolific in the First Division as Fulham struggled following promotion and the departure of Kevin Keegan for England, but still scored fourteen goals in 40 appearances.
Horsfield, something of a cult hero at the Cottage, had been made available for transfer by new Fulham manager Jean Tigana following the arrival of French under-21 forward Louis Saha from Metz earlier this month.
A Fulham spokesman said: “Geoff has been given the opportunity to move back north and we wish him all the best.”
