Fulham have signed French forward Louis Saha from FC Metz for £2.1m.

The 21 year-old striker spent six months on loan at Newcastle in 1999, making twelve appearances and scoring two goals. He helped the Geordies reach the FA Cup final, scoring the only goal in the fifth round win over Blackburn Rovers, but was left of the Cup final squad that lost to Manchester United by Ruud Gullit.

The former French under-21 international becomes Jean Tigana’s first signing since taking over at Craven Cottage. Tigana said: “”Louis is a very good signing. I have known him since he was 17 and he has great ability. I am sure he will follow the success of his contemporaries Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka. I believe he will be a very good player in the First Division and has the right qualities to be a success in the Premiership”.
