Ex-England striker Stan Collymore signed for Fulham on loan from Aston Villa in July 1999. He was meant to add firepower and experience to Paul Bracewell’s squad but he struggled to hold down a place in the Fulham starting line-up and returned to Villa Park less than three months later. Collymore did sign off with his only Fulham goal: a towering header at West Brom that clinched a League Cup win, but this was ultimately a disappointing spell in a career that never really reached its potential.
