Fulham have signed Halifax Town striker Geoff Horsfield for around £300,000 this afternoon.
The former bricklayer moves to Craven Cottage having scored eight goals in fourteen games for the Shayman this season. The 24 year-old scored 34 goals in 47 appearances in all competitions last year as Halifax won the Conference to win promotion to the Football League and, having been initially scouted by Arthur Cox, the Barnsley-born striker’s performances persuaded Kevin Keegan to pursue a move for the former Guiseley and Witton Albion man who was released by Scarborough as a teenager.
Horsfield will supplement the Second Division leaders’ strikeforce that already includes Paul Peschisolido, Dirk Lehmann and Paul Moody. The deal bringing the burly striker to Craven Cottage could rise still further – with a further payments triggered by Horsfield’s success with the Whites – and a sell-on clause giving Halifax a share of the profits from any future sale.
