Midfielder Andy Arnott was brought in by Micky Adams from Leyton Orient for £23,000 following Fulham’s promotion from Division Three but saw his chances of first-team football vanish following the instillation of Ray Wilkins and Kevin Keegan as Mohamed Al-Fayed’s new management time. Arnott made just one appearance for the first-team as a substitute in the home defeat by Bournemouth in February 1998 before leaving for Brighton and Hove Albion in October 1998.
