Cardiff City have signed Richard Carpenter from Fulham for £35,000 this afternoon.
The Bluebirds agreed to match the fee Fulham paid for the 25 year-old midfielder after a tribunal ruled in their favour when he moved to Craven Cottage from Gillingham in September 1996. Carpenter was a key part of the side that won promotion from Division Three under Micky Adams but has found first-team football harder to come by as the Whites strive to get out of the Second Division.
Kevin Keegan green-lighted the deal for the tough-tackling midfielder, who made 66 appearances in all for Fulham, to move to Ninian Park and Carpenter’s signature – after a successful medical this morning – concludes a summer-long search for engine room reinforcements by Cardiff manager Frank Burrows.
