Welsh keeper Mark Walton was turning out for non-league outfit Fakenham Town when he got the call to come to Craven Cottage as Micky Adams prepared for his first full season in football management. Walton, who had played league football for six sides, quickly edged out incumbent Tony Lange to become Fulham’s number one. He was a popular member of a close-knit side and made forty league appearances as the Whites won promotion from the third tier. That proved to be his only full campaign with the club, with Gillingham taking him to Preistfield as the Al-Fayed revolution gathered pace.
