Fulham have signed Gillingham forward Darren Freeman – but the final transfer fee will settled by a tribunal.

Freeman rejected Gillingham’s offer of a new contract having fallen out of manager Tony Pulis’ first-team last season but the Gills also turned down Fulham’s £10,000 for the versatile forward. The former Worthing winger, who can also operate as a striker, made 15 appearances for Gillingham – scoring a single goal – but enjoyed a successful loan spell at Glenavon in the second half of last season.

The 22 year-old moved to Priestfield on a free transfer from non-league Horsham on the recommendation of Northern Ireland legend Gerry Armstrong. The 22 year-old has signed a two-year contract at Craven Cottage and is set to supplement Micky Adams’ attack as the former Gillingham left back starts his first full season in management by the banks of the River Thames.

Adams said: “Darren is an excellent signing for us. He is 6ft and has pace. We are still negotiating [with Gillingham about] the fee and it could go to a tribunal, but he’s definitely with us.”
