Fulham produced a fabulous fightback to end their miserable run of form and beat Cardiff City 4-2 at a soggy Craven Cottage this evening.
Ian Branfoot’s side were staring down the barrel of another demorilising defeat when their Welsh visitors eased into a two-goal lead inside 37 minutes. The clinical Carl Dale opened the scoring with his 21st goal of the campaign after four minutes and Ian Rogerson pounced on some dozy defending to double the Bluebirds’ lead. Fulham were handed a lifeline a minute before the break when Simon Morgan was brought down in the box and young midfielder Danny Bolt powered home the ensuing penalty.
Ian Branfoot replaced Terry Angus with Mark Blake at the interval, but the home side were indebted to goalkeeper Tony Lange for making a stunning save to deny Dale a second before they burst into life after Carl Williams came on for Mike Conroy. The hosts drew level in fortuitous circumstances when Duncan Jupp’s corner took two deflections and ended up in the back of the net off the unfortunate Cardiff captain Paul Harding.
Fulham now had the momentum with them and went ahead two minutes later when Bolt’s corner was emphatically headed home by Michael Mison. Captain Morgan made sure of the victory by heading home a third goal in the space of six mad minutes to the disbelief of a crestfallen Cardiff side.
