A late leveller from Anthony Carss denied Fulham maximum points at Darlington this evening.
Ian Branfoot’s side were good value for a half-time lead provided by Mike Conroy’s towering header from a Duncan Jupp cross. But the Cottagers elected to try and sit on their slender lead even after Darlington began to dominate a contest that was short on clear-cut chances.
Tony Lange made a superb second half save to deny Gary Bannister an equaliser and Gavin Warboys sent a header wide from a left-wing cross. The Cottagers tried to cling onto their narrow advantage, but Branfoot’s side were pushed back by wave after wave of home attacks. Darlington got their reward three minutes from time when Carss cracked an unstoppable shot past Lange and into the far corner.
