Substitute Gary Brazil’s late leveller grabbed a deserved point for Fulham as they battled to a 1-1 draw with Hereford United at Craven Cottage this afternoon.

Brazil blasted in at the Hammersmith End with twelve minutes to play after Michael Mison had twice contested a cross from Simon Morgan with the visiting goalkeeper John Sheffield. The United number one had an outstanding game but he flapped at the ball in under pressure from the tall Mison and the midfielder’s efforts allowed the ball to break to Brazil, who crashed a volley high into the net through a crowded six-yard box.

Sheffield had made superb saves to keep out shots from Micky Adams, on-loan striker Mark Stallard and former Wimbledon centre forward Alan Cork in a performance that seemed set to help Hereford claim all three points. The visitors took the lead when Steve White punished some slack defending to guide home his sixth goal in seventh games midway through the first half, but the prolific striker will rue hitting the far post with a shot ten minutes later as he hooked a long throw goalwards.

FULHAM: Stannard; Morgan, Herrera, Marshall, Mison, Moore, Blake, Jupp, Cork, Adams, Stallard. Subs: Harrison, Brazil, Bedrossian.
