Fulham defender Jeff Eckhardt has joined Stockport County in a £50,000 deal following the Whites’ relegation from the Third Division.

The Craven Cottage stalwart leaves Craven Cottage having made 283 appearances – and scoring 28 goals – during six years at Fulham. The 28 year-old has opted to move on after the Whites went down having suffered a final day defeat at Swansea City and is understood to have taken a pay cut to become County manager Danny Begera’s ninth summer signing.

Eckhardt began his stint in SW6 as an uncompromising centre half but has operated in virtually every position for the Whites and scored twice in Fulham’s 4-2 win over Stockport at Craven Cottage last season. He was keen to remain in the Second Division and the County board were happy to green light another key signing in a summer of spending.
