A late header from Phil Horner rescued a point for bottom of the table Blackpool against Fulham at Bloomfield Road this afternoon.

The point was not enough to lift the home side off the foot of the Second Division table and extended their woeful run without a win to thirteen league games. But Don Mackay’s visitors were crestfallen having come within sixty seconds of an away win after loan signing John McGlashan had given them the lead midway through the first half. The Scottish striker was in the right place at the right time to stab home his first Fulham goal after Lee Martin had failed to hold onto Udo Onwere’s powerful shot.

Paul Eyres twice went close with ambitious efforts in response for the home side – and Blackpool began the second half on the front foot. They had a goal ruled out when referee Gurnam Singh blew for a foul on Jim Stannard at a corner before Gary Briggs had put the ball into the net and Mark Bonner shot wide after linking up well with fellow Pools youngster Neil Mitchell. Stannard made two superb saves to keep out a pair of headers from David Robinson before Onwere shot straight at Martin with Fulham’s only effort on target of the second period.

Mackay opted not to use substitutes Paul Kelly or Rob Haworth and Fulham appeared to withstood a late onslaught to claim a valuable three points but disaster struck in the last minute. Stannard did well to save a deflected effort from distance by substitute Bonner but the visitors went to sleep from the subsequent corner, allowing Horner to head home Gouck’s set-piece to the relief of the home fans.
