Don Mackay insisted his Fulham side will shrug off the setback of losing ground in the play-off race after they were beaten at fellow promotion contenders Stockport County last night.
The Scot was disappointed that his side lost for the first time in seven games at Edgeley Park, telling the press after the game: “Stockport are a good side and they were ruthless tonight. Unfortunately for us, we didn’t win when we needed to but we’ve got to keep believing that we can do it. That’s half the battle”.
Mackay was furious that a linesman overruled the referee and disallowed what looked like a leveller from Sean Farrell – even though the striker’s header appeared to cross the line with Fulham a goal down – and there was no way back when County added a second to Jim Gannon’s thirteenth header fortuitous circumstances. With the Whites throwing numbers forward at the other end, Glen Thomas beat Jim Stannard with a panicked clearance under pressure from Andy Preece.
Fulham will look to put a painful defeat behind them when they travel to south Wales to take on Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.
