Former soldier Phil Stant quickly become a cult hero after scoring the winner against Preston North End on his Fulham debut at Craven Cottage in February 1991. He hit five goals in 20 games, including a famous winner at Brentford in April, as Fulham staved off relegation from Division Three before being sold to Mansfield Town for £50,000 in a cash-strapped close season.
