Right winger Julian Hails joined Fulham from Hemel Hempstead Town in August 1990 having been recommended to then manager Alan Dicks by chief executive Brian Naysmith, who had been the youngster’s football coach at Surrey University. Hails made his debut as a substitute against Shrewsbury in 1992 under Don Mackay and went on to make more than a hundred first-team appearances for the Whites before being signed for Southend United by Peter Taylor in December 1994.
