Notts County scored in the very first minute to knock Fulham out of the Leyland DAF Cup this evening with a goal in the very first minute.
It took the visitors just 25 seconds to break the deadlock. County full back Nicky Platnaeur sped down the left flank and whipped in a cross that Fulham goalkeeper Jim Stannard came to collect and missed, allowing right back Charlie Palmer to bundle the ball home. The usually reliable Stannard almost gifted the visitors a second goal at the start of the second half when he fumbled another routine catch, but Gary Lund sent a snapshot against the post.
County’s well-drilled defence had few alarms throughout the ninety minutes as Fulham struggled for invention in the final third. Winger Clive Walker squandered the hosts’ clearest chance, blazing high over the crossbar when he worked a shooting angle twenty minutes from time.
