Promotion rivals Fulham and Sheffield United shared the spoils after an entertaining 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage this afternoon.
The home side scored two superb goals but were unable to grind out another important victory. Ray Lewington’s men took the lead as early as the second minute when John Marshall crossed for Peter Scott to the give the Whites a perfect start. Tony Agana equalised with a close-range header a minute before the interval as the Blades gained a reward for finishing the first half with a prolonged period of pressure on the Fulham goal.
Veteran Welsh striker Gordon Davies restored Fulham’s lead two minutes into the second half when he rifled home a fine right-footed finish from another magnificent Marshall cross, but Fulham couldn’t maintain their performance levels for the whole ninety minutes. Ian Bryson equalised with a header twenty minutes from time to round off an excellent individual performance from the wily winger.
The home side might have won it through Scott’s powerful effort at the death, but that would have been exceptionally harsh on Dave Bassett’s side.
