Gavin Peacock’s late winner gave Gillingham victory over Fulham in the Football League Trophy at Priestfield this afternoon.
The highly-rated midfielder netted a close-range finish after fine work from Mark Cooper to shatter Fulham’s resistance at the end of a tight local derby. The home side had gone ahead in the thirteenth minute when young striker Jason Lillis steered home from inside the six-yard box.
Fulham replied through veteran winger Clive Walker five minutes before half time. The former Chelsea forward’s equaliser was Fulham’s first goal in 509 minutes but Ray Lewington’s side will now have to recover from the Peacock-inspired late heartbreak.
