Brentford eased to victory over near neighbours Fulham this evening to leave themselves on the cusp of qualifying from the group stages of the Sherpa Van Trophy.
The Whites might have been expected to have been smarting from their FA Cup defeat to fourth division Colchester United but they never really recovered from going behind in the fifth minute at Griffin Park. The home side went in front when Gary Blissett ended a nine game scoreless streak by shooting past Laurence Batty after excellent work from Keith Jones and Andy Feeley in the build-up.
The hosts doubled their lead seven minutes before the break when the in-form Richard Cadette converted Kevin Godfrey’s cross to score his tenth goal of the campaign. Steve Perryman’s side had to secure their local derby win after suffering the loss of both Graham Pearce and the man who replaced him, Colin Lee, to hamstring injuries before half time.
