Summer signing Andy Sayer had an immediate impact as he scored on his debut to inspire the Whites to a come-from-behind victory on the opening day of the season at Cardiff City.
The Bluebirds had gone in front after eight minutes at Ninian Park when Richard Langley inadvertently turned Welsh international striker Ian Walsh’s speculative shot past his own goalkeeper.
Sayer, who arrived from Wimbledon in midweek, was the catalyst for Fulham’s second half fightback when he scored his first league goal in eighteen months ten minutes after the interval. The 22 year-old striker latched onto a flick on from defender Glen Thomas to bring Ray Lewington’s side level.
The visitors were in front eight minutes later when the vision of centre forward Michael Cole gave the onrushing full back Gary Elkins the chance to finish a flowing counter-attack with a fine low finish that beat the dive of Cardiff goalkeeper George Wood and found the far corner to the delight of the travelling Fulham contingent.
