Fulham signed Andy Sayer for £70,000 from Wimbledon to boost their promotion push from Division Three in August 1988. The highly-rated young striker scored on his debut in an opening day win at Cardiff City but struggled for form and fitness in two years at Craven Cottage – scoring 17 times in 65 games – before joining Leyton Orient in February 1990.
